Being Right or Being Righteous?
In a society polarized by strong opinions, the danger of reducing others to "the enemy" is no way for a mature believer to act!
St. Paul told his spiritual son, St. Timothy, “And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient” (2 Timothy 2:24)
But we live in a contentious age where quarreling seems to be the norm.
A dear friend who used to frequent social media has concluded that this electronic “town square” isn’t worth it anymore. He is convinced that it feeds our temptations and passions and makes argumentative a virtue when it’s a vice!
More and more, I have a hard time disagreeing with him.
But what happens if wisdom abandons such a powerful communications tool? This is a good struggle; if we are wise, we will see this as an opportunity to grow, not something to “argue” about.
