An article in the Wall Street Journal in May 2023 discussed the noticeable increase in the number of Americans converting to Orthodoxy. Our parish was featured in that article.
One of the more amazing discoveries is that these converts are embracing the Orthodox Faith in spite of having no cultural connection to traditional Orthodox cultures. A sizable number of these converts are young men.
When he spoke to me, the reporter asked me why this was happening. I gave him a simple answer: meaning.
The reality is that there is a sense of meaninglessness, especially among young men in this society. And that leads to some pretty unhealthy masculine behaviors.
