This whole “New Year” thing is a bit artificial, but it isn’t meaningless.
We fill this time of year with resolutions, promises, introspection, and celebrations until midnight so we can “ring in the New Year!”
Since we humans have been measuring time, we find cycles, rhythms, seasons, endings, and beginnings in our relationship to Time. I’m convinced this is a God-given rhythm meant to bring us to a point of change. God, in His love for us, grants us moments of confrontation to offer us a moment of attentiveness to our living.
We too often sleep through life on automatic pilot, simply repeating patterns of behaviors and choices that lull us into the slavery of living. Unless confronted with an option, a moment, or a wake-up call of encounter, we slip silently into the grave, having squandered the chance at authentic living.
God loves you, and He desires that you become the real you. But that begs the question: Who IS the Real You?
This is why I write these daily devotionals.
Centuries—centuries of rhythm, beginnings, and endings, shifts in seasons, cycles of planting and harvesting, war and peace, hunger and plenty—histories of peoples washing over this earth, empires rising and falling, all repeating the same mistakes and having to relearn the timeless lessons.
And within all this human history, God refuses to be silent. He speaks to us through the timeless wisdom of Faith, culminating in the Last Encounter of God becoming flesh for our sakes in Jesus Christ.
Wisdom preserved in the Holy Scriptures gives us the roadmap to discovering who we are and who we are meant to become—if we have the courage, discipline, and even curiosity to embrace this timeless wisdom!
In 2025, Monday through Friday, I invite you to join me for a short visit with the Scriptures. Together, we will reset your idea of Normal and help you become a Normal person created in God’s Image to be made into His Likeness.
There is no greater adventure than this!
