Jesus IS The Cornerstone
What is the code for living a fulfilling and meaningful life? The answer to that questions isn't a philosophy; it's a Person!
In ancient architecture, the cornerstone was the first stone laid on the foundation of a building, and its importance was practical and irreplaceable. It was by the cornerstone that the whole building was oriented. The cornerstone was the stone all other stones in the building were referenced and oriented toward. In other words, as the cornerstone was, so was the whole structure.
Hmm, I guess we should pay attention to cornerstones.
It’s easy to miss that our external, physical lives, like architecture, medicine, exercise, and relationships, all have spiritual dimensions. This is on purpose and a “cornerstone” in how we understand how to live a Normal life. Figuring out the “code” for full, healthy, and joyous living depends on us learning to integrate our spiritual and physical lives. Why do you think Orthodoxy combines both prayer and action? It’s to teach you not to fall for the false notion that you can live one way at church and another in your “real” life!
